Moonstone is the name of Adularia. Its name comes from the Adula massif, in the Lepontine Alps, where it was discovered by the Lombard naturalist Ermenegildo Pini in 1780. It has an optical effect of iridescence that manifests itself as a vivid color that changes when the stone is moved. In ancient times it was associated with the goddess Diana and it was believed to become brighter when the moon was full.
