The origin of the name Turquoise is uncertain, but it seems to derive from the French word 'turc' (Turkish). Turquoise, in fact, arrived in Europe from Persia via Turkey. The main deposits are found in Iran (deposits known since 1200), the United States (Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada), Mexico, South Africa, Russia, Egypt, Israel, Tibet, China. Turquoise, known for thousands of years, is a fascinating and highly sought-after stone: a symbol of celestial divinity and the wonders of the East. The Persians were the first to love its most prized quality, sky blue in color. The splendid blue color, due to copper, made Turquoise a sacred stone also in Tibet, Ancient Mexico and pre-Columbian Peru. In Europe it became the stone of knights and travellers that protected from risks and dangers. Mounted in silver, it is considered a protective amulet.
This ring has been forged and worked entirely by hand in 925 silver, with the addition of a beautiful polished brass bezel. All finely chiseled in contrasting relief.
